Named after the legendary hunter turned conservationist Jim Corbett, profoundly known as ‘Carpet Saab’ in the region, Corbett was the first national park that was established in India. Way back in1936, the park started by the name of Hailey National Park, later turned to Ramganga National Parkas river Ramganga being the lifeline of the park, changed again for the 3 rd time in 1955; was named to Jim Corbett National Park after the famous hunter turned conservationist died in Kenya. Jim Corbett National Park along with the Sonanadi Wildlife Sanctuary & Ramnagar forest division combines up to form an undisturbed forested land of 1300 sq.km. known as the Corbett Tiger Reserve. 

There are more than 100 types of trees, 50 types of shrubs, 25 types of climbers, 32 types of bamboo &; grasses, 50 species of mammals, 580 species of birds & many different species of reptiles & fishes that are found here in Corbett Tiger Reserve. Two rivers, namely Kosi &; Ramgangaare there to quench the thirst of the Park providing an ample amount of necessary water for the park & its animals to survive. More than 70% of the forested land is covered with the ‘Sal Trees’. And last but not the least, The Corbett Tiger Reserve is divided into three zones:- Tourism Zone (just 12%of the park area), Core zone (where only forest officials are allowed to go) & the Buffer zone (where the local communities have limited, regulated access)   Jim Corbett Park is a natural forest situated at the Nainital district of Uttarakhand. Vastly acquiring land of roughly around 1288 sq.km., Jim Corbett Park remains the first National Park in India. 

Animals like Tiger, Leopard, Jungle Cat, Leopard Cat, Asian elephant, Spotted/ Sambhar/ Barking ;Hog Deers, Monkey, Langur, Jackal, Ghoral, Wild Boars, Yellow Throated Marten etc and birds like the Great Hornbill, Kingfishers, woodpeckers, common hoopoe, magpies, dollar birds, ibisbill, cormorants, eagles, owls, owlets, thrushes etc are commonly found here. With creatures like the mugger crocodiles, gharials, cobras, vipers n pythons etc, Jim Corbett Park has a vast population of reptiles present also. Most of the park remains closed for tourists during the monsoons but the two tourism zone Dhela & jhirna remains open throughout the year.
